Today is December 22. So far this month, there have been 24 shootings involving kids under 18 with access to loaded guns. NINE have died – 4 of them were under the age of 5.

12/21/2016 – Little Rock, AR
Police say a 9-year-old and his 11-year-old brother were home alone. The older brother told police that the victim had found the gun in the house and started playing with it. The gun went off, shooting the child in the head. The boy was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his wounds.
12/20/2016 – Coushatta, LA
A 8-year-old and 2-year-old were playing with a gun they found in a vehicle. The 8-year-old was injured in the abdomen.
12/20/2016 – Cheshire Township, OH
A 13-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy were at one of the boys’ homes. They were playing with a gun. One of the boy’s unintentionally fired the gun that he believed to be empty. It struck the other boy in the back and left him in critical condition. It has not been reported which of the boys was the shooter and which was the victim. Reports indicate that the boys were related.
12/20/2016 – Miller County, AR
14-year-old Destin Wallace was playing at his friend’s house Monday night when the friend unintentionally shot him with a .22 caliber pistol, killing him. No other information has been made available.
12/19/2016 – Tucson, AZ
A 7-year-old boy found a gun and shot a 3-year-old child. Police said it appears the shooting was accidental. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
12/18/2016 – Pinellas County, FL
A 16-year-old boy was showing his handgun to a 17-year-old friend when it discharged and struck the 17-year-old in the ankle. Initially, both boys told police that the shooting was the result of a drive-by before confessing the truth. Police found a .45 caliber handgun and a second gun at the shooter’s home. The shooter was charged with one count each of delinquent in possession of a firearm, delinquent in possession of ammunition, culpable negligence and felony violation of probation.
12/18/2016 – Charlotte, NC
Police are investigating a Sunday afternoon shooting in west Charlotte that left a 14-year-old hospitalized. Authorities say their initial investigation indicates the victim and the shooter are known to one another and the shooting appears to have been accidental. Police have not yet said if charges will be filed.
12/18/2016 – South Austin, IL
A-9-year-old boy shot himself in the leg in his home. He was transported to the hospital. His condition is unknown. The weapon is legally owned by a member of the boy’s household, according to police.
12/18/2016 – Columbus, OH
A 4-year-old boy found a loaded handgun in a bathroom cupboard and shot himself in the abdomen while handling the firearm. The boy’s parents and another child were home when the shooting occurred. The child was last reported to be in critical condition.
12/17/2016 – Wichita, KS
A 16-year-old girl unintentionally shot and killed herself while playing with a shotgun with her friends. Charges are not expected to be filed.
12/17/2016 – Waco, TX

12/17/2016 – Meridian, MS
A 15-year-old son of a sheriff deputy was at his home with a friend. The two were handling a shotgun when it discharged, killing the deputy’s son. It is unclear who pulled the trigger.
12/12/2016 – College Station, TX
A 17-year-old was with five or six other individuals between the ages of 16 and 21 on Monday afternoon, when a 16-year-old boy from Houston was holding a handgun that accidentally discharged, striking and injuring the 17-year-old, police said.
12/12/2016 – Detroit, MI
Three boys ages 13, 14, and 15 were staying at their grandmother’s house on a snow day. They invited another child, a 13-year-old boy, over. The four boys were playing video games when the homeowner’s grandchildren went upstairs and picked up the grandmother’s revolver to try to scare the 13-year-old. The revolver had been left on a nightstand and didn’t have a trigger lock. Police said the gun went off and the bullet hit the 13-year-old visitor in the chest and killing him. It’s unclear who was handling the gun when it went off. The grandmother has been taken into custody. Her three grandsons are being interviewed by police.

A 10-year-old shot himself with a handgun. He was transported to the hospital and was last reported in stable condition.

A 14-year-old unintentionally shot a 13-year-old friend in the leg.
12/6/2016 – Mableton, GA
A 11-year-old boy unintentionally shot and killed a 14-year-old girl while hanging out with friends.
12/5/2016 – Williston, ND
A 3-year-old boy found a gun in the home and shot himself in the head. He is expected to survive.
12/4/2016 – Toledo, OH
A 2-year-old child found a gun and unintentionally shot and killed herself with it. Her father was charged with child endangerment.
12/4/2016 – Kissimmee, FL
A 17-year-old was with friend at a resort hotel in Kissimmee Florida. One of the kids had a .38 caliber gun. The teen took the gun, accidentally fired it and unintentionally shot himself in the head. His condition is unknown.
12/2/2016 – Wichita, KS
A 12 and 14-year-old were playing with a gun at their bus stop when it discharged, sending a bullet into the sidewalk. One of the children also brought the gun to school.
12/2/2016 – Charlotte County, VA
Two teenage boys went hunting Friday around 5:20 p.m. on private property on Mt. Carmel Road in Charlotte County. While hunting, a 17-year-old boy mistook his friend for a deer and shot him. The 16-year-old boy who was shot was pronounced dead at the scene.
